GERMAN PIONEERS DAY Feier in Kitchener geplant Am
10. Oktober 2006 wird der German Pioneersday wieder gefeiert, um an die
deutschsprachigen Einwanderer zu erinnern, die nach der amerikanischen
Revolution und am Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts zu Tausenden nach Ontario kamen.
Es gibt jetzt etwa 3 Millionen Kanadier deutscher Herkunft; damit bilden
sie die drittgrößte ethnische Gruppe in unserer Nation. In
einem Gesetz, das der Abgeordnete für Kitchener, Mr. Wayne Wettlaufer,
vorgelegt hat und das vom Parlament für Ontario verabschiedet wurde, wird der
Tag nach Thanksgiving zum alljährlichen Gedenktag für dieses kulturelle Erbe
erklärt. Als Teil der Oktoberfest-Veranstaltungen in Kitchener und Waterloo werden Ausstellungsstücke, die an die Frühzeit der deutschen Einwanderung erinnern, sowie ein Conestoga-Wagen . Auch Chöre und Kapellen werden an diesem Tag auftreten. Die
Mitglieder der deutsch-kanadischen Clubs und Verbände sowie der Kirchen, die
von den Pionieren gegründet wurden, sind zur Teilnahme aufgefordert worden.
Ausstellungsstücke zu ihrer Geschichte werden in der Kitchener City
Hall, 200 King St. West, ab 11 Uhr zu sehen sein.
Erfrischungen sind dort auch erhältlich. Beginn 12:00 Uhr. Mit
Ausstellungen in der Halle Alle Leute deutscher Herkunft sowie alle Besucher und Mitbürger sind herzlich eingeladen, den vierten German Pioneers Day mit uns zu feiern.

GERMAN PIONEERS DAY to be celebrated in Kitchener On
October 10th, 2006 the German Pioneers Day will be celebrated to remember the immigration
to Ontario of thousands of German-speaking people after the American Revolution
and during the early years of the 19th Century.
There are now some 3 million Canadians of German heritage in the third
largest language group in our nation.
The
Ontario legislature has declared the day after Thanksgiving to be the annual
recognition of this heritage, in a Bill sponsored by Mr. Wayne Wettlaufer, MPP
for Kitchener. As
a part of the Oktoberfest week in Kitchener and Waterloo, there will be heritage
and pioneer displays, a Conestoga wagon. Choirs
and bands will perform during the day.
Members
of the German-Canadian Clubs and Associations and of the churches both begun by
those Pioneers and now attended by their descendants have been invited to
participate. Displays
of their local history will be in the Kitchener City Hall, 200 King St.West and
will be open for the public at 11:00 a.m., refreshments will also be available. Start
12:00 A.M.with Exhibits in the Rotunda 3:30 P.M. Transylvania Hofbräu
Band The
formal program will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the National Anthem and greetings
from our guests and local dignitaries. All those of German heritage and indeed all our visitors and fellow citizens are welcome to share in this fourth celebration of German Pioneers Day. For further information contact:

Six years ago, the Ontario government instituted German Pioneers Day to recognize the achievements of German pioneers in shaping Ontario’s development. The German Pioneers Day event will take place on Oct. 10, 2006 in the rotunda of the Kitchener City Hall, 200 King St. W., Kitchener. The formal program begins at 5 p.m. This year, the German Pioneers Day committee is recognizing two key participants in the local newspaper industry: first, the Motz family, and second, The Record. The Motz family maintained a lead role in the
newspaper business for four generations, starting with John Motz in 1859
and continuing with William J. Motz, John E. Motz and Paul Motz. The
Motz’s involvement in the industry originated with the creation of The
Berliner Journal and lasted until 1990. Under their leadership, the
newspaper evolved into what we now know as The Record. German Pioneers
Day will recognize the Motz family’s tremendous contribution of more
than 130 years of journalistic excellence. Over the years, the Twin Cities have welcomed people from around the world. Today, people of German heritage still make up 10% of our population.
